Article TitleGold fever croppling state mines.
Is Part OfJewellery review ; v.1, no.48, Jan/Feb 1995, p.113-114.
AbstractAlthough gold mining by individuals is illegal in China, "gold fever" has swept up thousands of farmers who see the precious metal as a way to get rich quick. State-owned gold mines in Gansu, Sichuan, Hebei, Shanxi and Jilin provinces are under attack as a result of the freelance prospecting as the wildcat miners put more gold on the black market, resulting in huge losses of State-owned gold resources.
