| Abstract | In spite of the programmed departures - which will fluctuate according to the political situation - analysts are all agreed on one point: Hong Kong will remain for some years yet "the most international city of China". After all, it is in the interest of Chinese leaders to keep Hong Kong as an international financial centre, if only because of its economic and financial interests here. The latest actions of the Chinese Government - notably the large number of seats in its transition bodies reserved for representatives from the local and overseas business community - tend to confirm this. |
