| Abstract | Director of Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office Lu Ping says he will step down on 1 July 1997. "I'll be free," said the 68-year-old director, who has been with the office since 1979. In his wide-ranging speech to a group of businessmen and academics in Singpaore, Lu reassured the international community that China's resumption of power would have little impact on Hong Kong's economic or political life. |
