Article TitleSilk region in decline.
Is Part OfTextile Asia : the Asian textile & apparel monthly ; v.26, no.3, Mar 1995, p.52.
AbstractNorthern Jiangsu province of China used to be a major silk textile production base, but in recent years the region has lost ground, and its many silk textile plants now face a bleak future. Possible reasons for this decline are believed to be a shift in emphasis to agricultural produce which creates a shortage of silk cocoons, rising production costs, falling quality of cocoons, lack of skilled workers, and lack of innovation and technological renovation.
