| Abstract | The first month of 1994 has brought a flurry of activity and a revitalisation of US economic ties with China. On January 17, after a tense stand-off, the two countries signed a textile agreement and averted a trade war. Then US Treasury Secretary Lloyd Bentsen flew to China for four days of high-level trade talks which restarted the Sino-US Joint Economic Committee. |
