| Abstract | In a new spirit of "Pacific Community," leaders of the 15 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) economies assembled for their fifth annual meeting. Against the backdrop of the scenic American northwestern port city of Seattle, APEC leaders began to define the role that Asia will play in a post-Cold War economy. The unprecedented gathering allowed for high-level dialogue among the participants. The most significant was the meeting between Chinese President Jiang Zemin and US President Bill Cliton. |
