| Abstract | For seven months the Hong Kong press baron, Ma Ching Kwan of the Oriental Press Group, has been battling on two fronts: struggling to keep his English-language daily Eastern Express alive, and fighting price wars with his Chinese-language rivals. On June 29, amid growing shareholder discontent and pressure from within the Ma clan, he conceded defeat. He ordered the two-year old Eastern Express closed and resigned as company chairman. |
