Abstract | Although we live in a high-tech era of computers and space exploration, we still rely on hte supply of fresh air, clean water and food from nautre. Trees are vital in this respect because they maintain the balance of materials such as oxygen, carbon dioxide and water through various cycles in nature. In recognition of their importance, Friends of the Earth has organised its Plant for the Earth campaign for the past four years and 1996 we have achieved our biggest planting ever. |
