Abstract | Ping An - meaning "secure" - is one of the top three insurance companies in China and, in the capital, it controls half the life-insurance market. Ping An was founded in 1987 in Shenzhen Special Economic Zone but did not open a Beijing branch until 1994. According to sources at the People's Bank of China, the country's central bank, Ping An pioneered home-calling to stay ahead of "intensifying competition in the insurance market." |
