| Abstract | Like most other cities in the Pearl River delta, Shunde is a newly farm-turned-industrial town capitalizing on its proximity to Hong Kong. It has an area of 806 square kilometers and population of 920,000. Located in the heart of the delta region, the town has always excelled in river transport and, along the trade routes, established a centuries-old fame for winning dragon boat racing championships in and outside Guangdong, even overseas. |
