AbstractHong Kong's new park projects differ from most of their predecessors in that they are being designed with a specific identity in mind, so that each project will stand out as an individual entity. "The creation of a theme could be in many ways," says Jonathan Yung, Senior Landscape Architect. "The most common approach would be to use the historical background of the site. this will stimulate the memories of park goers on the one hand, and on the other, it will create more talking points amongst them, not just when they are in the park but also after their visit." One of the first projects to successfully combine recreational landscape with a sense of history was the Kowloon Walled City Park. Other landscape projects are also introduced in this article, including North District Park, District Park at Ha Yuen Long, Civil Servant's Memorial Garden, Ecological Park at Tso Kung Tam and Ma On Shan Park.
