| Abstract | Founded by the Society for the Study of Eastern Culture (Dongfang wenhua yanjiuhui), the bimonthly Dongfang, which includes a number of well-known academics among its members - its honorary president is Peking University professor, Han Tianshi. It aims to establish the parameters of Chinese modernity and thus open up the possibility of dialogue with its Western counterpart. In 1994, there was a clear shift in the magazine's focus to the study of social phenomena and their implications. Symptomatic of this shift in focus are the numerous articles on the topic of justice in Chinese society. |
