| Abstract | This paper is meant to provide food for thought to history teachers and students at the Sixth Form level. It will use the study of modern China as a case to illustrate the importance of the thematic approach emphasized by the new AL/ASL History syllabus that came into effect in 1994. But why is it important to adopt the thematic approach? To answer this question, one needs to appreciate the nature of history as an academic discipline. |
