| Abstract | Unisys Corp is the product of a merger between Sperry and Burroughs, which came together at a time when technology was largely proprietary, when the object of everyone's first sale was to lock customers into life-long relationships. The merged company ended up being a victim of that process, caught with amchines that couldn't often work together. So the move to "open" Unix-based computing was accelerated.
