| Abstract | As the third largest minority group in Xinjiang (after the Uygur and the Han), the majority of the one-million Kazakhs inhabit Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture in north Xinjiang. Others are distributed throughout Inner Mongolia, Qinghai and Gansu. The Kazakhs mostly live by animal husbandry and spend much of their lives on horseback. As herdsmen, the Kazakhs make seasonal migrations looking for new pasture for the livestock. |
