| Abstract | Premier Li Peng returned to Beijing after a five-day trip to Paris. The visit further cemented bilateral relations and emphasized mutual economic interests. The trip also helped to strengthen China's ties with the European Union, of which France is a major member. China's foreign policy advocates closer ties with developed countries, including Russia and other members of the Commonwealth of Independent States. And the Paris trip has come at a time of persistent difficulties between Beijing and Washington. |
