| Abstract | Elimination of poverty is an important strategic objective for China in its continuing drive towards modernization. The Chinese Government takes it not only as one of its paramount duties, but also a standing policy as long as poverty exists. It has made tremendous efforts in providing its people with basic means of living in the past 47 years. As a result, the living standard of the Chinese people has improved significantly. |
