| Abstract | Foreign investments have been playing an important role in China's transformation from a planned economy into a market-based and modern economy. At present, China is only second to the US as the largest recipient of foreign capital in the world. The influx of foreign investment has filled some of the gaps in China's shortfall in capital and has therefore contributed to the country's economic development. |
