AbstractThe French artist Auguste Borget (1808-1877) is undoubtedly better known in Hong Kong than in his native country. This is because Borget's work is classified under the general umbrella of China Trade Painting, a strangely underrated genre that flourished when China opened its coastal ports to Western traders in the 19th century.
