| Abstract | The Lunar New Year, known on the mainland as the Spring Festival, is as important to Chinese as Christmas is to Westerners. Traditionally, Chinese people would celebrate this festival with firecrackers, temple fairs, gala parties and variety shows and, above all, a family reunion dinner on the eve of the new year. This year, millions of Chinese are going to celebrate the Year of the Rat the same old way. But many have decided to try something different, as the author reports. |
