| Abstract | Hong Kong remains the world's largest exporter of toys, but weak consumer spending has depressed growth in business to the US and Europe while tightening competition has prevented price increases to cover a surge in plastic prices in 1995 and rising labour costs in China. What the industry really needs is a hit product. Toy makers engaged in original equipment manufacturing are hoping it will come from Disney again to coincide with the release of two films in 1996: Toy Story and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. |
