| Abstract | China laid out the red carpet for visiting Burmese leader, Senior General Than Shwe. Despite international press coverage, the visit by the chairman of Burma's State Law and Order Restoration Counci attracted little public attention. But Than Shwe's visit was highly significant for regional affairs, showing the strengthening of bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries. It also came at a time when much of the world's attention was focused on the continuing unease between China and the US, as well as tensions across the Strait of Taiwan. |
