| Abstract | Going once, going twice, gone - but not necessarily to a wealthy European or American any more. The world's great auction houses say their buyers are increasingly Asian. At sales in America, Europe and Australia, Asians may not always be visible on the floor, but their bids are there, placed by telephone or newer technology or agents, rising to the occasion. In Hong Kong and Southeast Asia a market for collectibles is developing, with purchasers buying their own national art in the main. |
