| Abstract | Looking back, it seems like a long-cherished dream come true: the creation of a political and economic Southeast Asian community that embraces all the countries in the region. Twenty-eight years after the Association of southeast Asian Nations was born, the fifth summit of Asean states, held in Thailand on December 14-15, took a major step towards making this dream a reality, when the leaders of all 10 states in the region signed the Bankok Declaration. |
