AbstractComplaints over journalism ethics most likely concern the way individual news reports are handled: whether they intrude into someone's private life, grief, or whether they are prejudiced toward certain people in society. These complaints belong to the individual level of ethical problems, which also concern means through which news is obtained. But individual ethics is not the only level of ethical conscerns in journalism. At least two other levels of ethics, which concern individual news companies and the entire news media respectively, are important. In recent years, a fair amount of research has been carried out on individual ethics in journalism, but the other two levels are comparatively neglected. In this article, the author looks into the case of Hong Kong and China.
