| Abstract | Zhang Daqian (Chang Dai-chien) has frequently been referred to as twentieth-century China's renaissance man, for he has accomplished all the great literati traditions, mastering calligraphy, painting and peotry, connoisseurship, and learning from the past master - yet introducing his own innovations to Chinese art. Since his death in 1983 his work has been widely discussed and there have been retrospective exhibitions in the USA, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. |
