Abstract | This paper discusses four features which the author believes are essential to effective implementation of the whole school approach to guidance in the Hong Kong school system which are adoption of a humanistic orientation, cultivation of a collaborative school climate, effective consultation with other related professionals, and congruence among values and policies about guidance process. Specifically, the humanistic orientation advocates a deep faith in students' potentials to develop in a positive and constructive manner if a climate of respect and trust is provided. The collaborative school climate leads to shared beliefs and increased cooperation in helping students grow in all directions. |
