| Abstract | Subtly, but decisively, the debate about Hong Kong has changed focus. Until now the protagonists, heavyweight and lightweight alike, have seen the issue as the future of Hong Kong. This was particularly true of the British, whose only direct interest is in Hong Kong's survival, but also of most Hong Kongers themselves. Now, with barely eighteen months to go, the issue has begun to be recognised as something much bigger, namely the future of China itself. |
