| Abstract | The future of Hongkong's top athletes now depend on the struggle within Hongkong's sporting community over the role of the Sports Development Board, which in 1990 shed its advisory role to government to become a statutory body. In the SDB, the territory's sport has a centralized policy-making body with the potential not only to secure the future of Hongkong's top athletes, but to transform sport from an occasional recreation to an embedded element of daily life. |
