| Abstract | Everything significant that is going to happen will occur in 1995. After all, by the end of the year, the handover will be only 18 months away. Already, the overall economy of Hongkong is massively dependent on China. Manufacturing in most industries has effectively moved north of the border already. Trade, finance and other services are largely driven by China trade. Much of the shipping, transport and inbound tourism business is China related. The commercial property sector reflects demands from firms dependent on China and even the residential property market, at least at the top end, is heavily influenced by the comings or goings of executives directly involved in China trade or in its financial repercussions. |
