Abstract | While the lifting of the embargo will spur Vitenam's economic growth, it will take time to transform an impoverished country into a middle-income market. At this stage, the most important issue for Vitenam is the granting of MFN trade status by the U.S. From the perspective of Hong Kong, this is particularly important since Vietnam could prove to be a viable export production base. Although Hong Kong firms have been pioneers in setting up production in Vietnam, access to the U.S. market will create a great deal more manufacturing investment opportunities. |
