| Abstract | Officials continue to talk of the economy's "soft landing" as they have been for a year and a half. This time they point to the downturn in the month-to-month record of inflation in the first quarter. Food was the culprit in last year's inflationary spiral. But at the end of February, the Chinese press reported a slight slowdown in the rise of pork and poultry prices, using figures from nearly all cities. |
