| Abstract | Elderly care in Beijing has to be seen in the context of China's rapidly aging population. In 1990 there were 63 million over the age of 65 and by 2020 this is predicted to rise from 5.6% of the nation's population to 11%. Beijing, along with other major cities such as Shanghai and Tianjin, has one of the fastest aged population growths in China. Approximately 12% of China's elderly people currently live in Beijing. |
