Abstract | The past week has been an entertaining one for political and economic aficionados. Continuing public fascination with the boy who broke the bank of Barings was to be expected in a community where the Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club is confused with as the Social Welfare Department. After all, not everyone gets to punt more than a billion in quite such a nerve-wrackingly destructive fashion. We all make mistakes, but not many of us have an employer who obligingly remits some US$800 million to prop up our wrong call. |
