| Abstract | Western observers tend to over-simplify the picture. But, actually, the China picture is intrinsically much more complex than what greets the eye of most outsiders. For one thing, there is absolutely no model either in the country's own history or that of foreign countries that can serve as a guide for the kind of transformation which has been under way in China for the past 15 years. |
