Abstract | Syphilitic infection produces 2 types of antibodies, the nonspecific 'reaginic' antibody and specific antitreponemal antibody. The common tests for the nonspecific 'reaginic' antibody are the Veneral Disease Research Laboratory (VDRL) test and the Rapid Plasma Reagin (RPR) test. Like the various tests for specific antitreponemal antibody, they are reactive in any treponemal infections, including yaws, pinta and endemic syphilis. |
