AbstractCircumcision, an operation that involves cutting off the foreskin of the penis, is a procedure dating back over four thousand years. Still practised as a religious custom by Jews and Muslims, it is also the commonest surgical procdure performed in the United States today. Recently there has been some controversy as to whether the operation is beneficial.
