| Abstract | Psychoanalysis has had a profound influence on "Western" psychiatry in the twentieth century. Its application and relevance to "Eastern" cultures is questioned. Some psychoanalytically derived concepts may be important to the practice of psychotherapy regardless of culture. The concept of the "psychotherapeutic frame" is discussed. |
