| Abstract | This year is a critical watershed in Hong Kong's political and economic life. Slowly but surely, confidence is returning following the events of June 1989. The recession in the U.S., the Gulf crisis, have all taken their toll. But the relationship between China and Britain, and between Hong Kong and China is clearly on the mend. The consensus is that the first half of 1991 will see slow growth both in the economy and in the equities market, building up solidly in the second half of the year. |
