| Abstract | The manufacturing sector's share of the GDP has fallen from 24.1 percent in 1984 to 18.3 percent in 1990, following relocation of a rising number of factories seeking cheaper land and labour in South China. Hong Kong is moving away from its old reputation for low cost, cheap manufacturing to a higher level of technology with automated processes, greater productivity and greater value-added products. |
