| Abstract | The article features that the December 19, 1999, transfer of Portuguese sovereignty over Macau to China marked the end of nearly five centuries of European colonialism in Asia. Presidents of the two countries officiated the Handover in the presence of over 2,500 invited guests at a purpose-built venue on the waterfront with the pomp and splendour similar to the one witnessed in Hong Kong two years ago. |
