'If we are not prepared to invest provision of adequate education programmes and training facilities, then it would be extremely difficult to attract the best potential cndidates to the industry ......', said the Hon Miriam Lau JP, Legislative Councillor, in a speech to the Hong Kong Shipowners Association (HKSOA) earlier in 2000. In recent years, the industry has been fortunate to have Ms Lau's support for the transport sector. Indeed, Ms Lau has shown a keen interest in the industry and has expressed her views on a range of issues, including education and training. Her ideas on the development of man-power training have been welcomed by all engaged in the marine industry. |
