AbstractThe article points out that after languishing in the doldrums for almost two years, Asia's economies are back on the growth path. Most countries have reported positive growth rates in 1999 after one of their worst showings in decades in 1998. South Korea, China, and Malaysia led the region with 10.2 percent, 7.1 percent and 4.9 percent annual Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth respectively, according to the World Bank's latest regional quarterly brief for East Asia and the Pacific region. Trade played a big part in the rebound of Asia's economies in 1999.
