AbstractJust when it seemed that China-United States (U.S.) ties had hit rock bottom with North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO)'s bombing of the Chinese embassy in Belgrade -- the rocks gave way. Less than three weeks later, a U.S. congressional committee released a long-awaited report alleging that Chinese agents had stolen design secrets from American nuclear-weapons laboratories over more than two decades. Suddenly, a relationship that is frequently frayed threatened to unravel entirely. The article features why China-U.S. relationship will take time to repair.
