| Abstract | Over the fives years prior to 1999, the Department of Architecture at Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has been conducting research on the provision and design of housing in China. The research has ranged from developing energy efficient design and elevator design to conducting post-occupancy evaluations of the results of past housing programmes. The Centre for Housing Innovations (CHI) has been launched by the department in 1998 to continue this research. The China Housing Prototype Design Project is one of the first projects under this newly formed centre and represents a unique collaboration among academics, practice, and government. The article reports on the progress. |
