Abstract | In late September 1998, 25 students from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)'s Department of Architecture, and 48 students from seven Hong Kong secondary schools spent a day in three housing estates (Kwong Yuen and Sui Wo in Shatin, and Kingswood Villas in Tin Shui Wai) talking to residents about the livability and design quality of their residential environments. The students' findings were presented in workshops as part of the World Day of Architecture'98 celebrations from October 1-6, 1998 at Pacific Place. A number of speakers participated in the accompanying symposium on Housing Design in Hong Kong - Towards the New Millenium. The speakers presented summaries of papers on housing design in terms of policy, design procurement, quality of living in housing, sustainable environment and integration of communities. |
