Article TitleWhere credit is due : after stabilizing currencies, the next task is to revive lending.
Is Part OfAsiaweek ; v.24, no.29, 24 Jul 1998, p.18, +1p., illus.
AbstractThe article discusses how to revive lending in Asia's crisis economies. For example, Asian governments adopted measures intended to stabilize their currencies and convince companies, savers and investors to stop switching assets into foreign currencies and domiciles, and to find ways to boost liquidity. The two obstacles are also featured in the article, including Japan's economic woes, which could set off another round of currency attacks and fear of lending among banks choking with bad loans.
