| Abstract | The article reviews Hong Kong's competitiveness, or the lack of it, because of the high level of costs. Some also blamed the fixed link of the Hong Kong dollar (HKD) to the United States (US) dollar for this high level of costs. Devaluation of the regional currencies since the Asian crisis broke out has made proponents of this line of thinking even more worried about the prospects for the territory, as a relatively strong currency is seen to have made Hong Kong even less competitive. |
