| Abstract | As many as 340 private firms previously operating under the guise of State enterprises have revealed their true ownershop status in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province, since the start of 1998. The landmark transformation was triggered by a series of measures issued by the Xuzhou municipal government to encourage the development of the private economy, including preferential treatment in credit programmes and taxation. |
