| Abstract | The decline of manufacturing as a major component of Hong Kong's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is now a well-known fact. There is a growing view among a section of influential leaders of the economy that this trend must be arrested. The government seems to share this opinion as it makes extra efforts to promote industries in general and manufacturing in particular. So Hong Kong Awards for Industry in 1998 and the selection of the lucky recipients on November 4, 1998 assume added dimension to a new policy being implemented by the Special Administrative Region (SAR). |
